Dc Trip Day 3 2025
Day 3: THAT Is A Jacque Louis David? So cool!!
The US Mint Headquarters and Coin Shop? Not worth your time. I got Becky some super great quarters.
The National Archive? Yeah, pretty cool. Who doesn’t want to gaze upon the O.G. Of Constitutions: The Magna Carta.
Then off to the National Gallery of Art. Now that’s what we’re talking about. There are so many “As Seen In History and/Art High School Textbooks” paintings there.
And it is HUGE! So that Wendi and I going back tomorrow.
The first big fancy door we went through took us to “Furniture From the 17th, 18th, and 19th Century”. The sad part of me went away when I saw excited Wendi got. She happily went down hall taking photos of designs she liked.
My biggest takeaways? I have got to learn more about all the saints: not just top ten. (Maybe more like five.) Some of those four century old paintings look friggin’ amazing. I know, right?
Also, most of the paintings show a very unfortunate saint or a hero from classic mythology. The third largest category was Nativity.
And, Oh My, all the Baby Jesuses… They were just laughably awful. As a way to keep myself amused, I started recording every UBJ (Ugly Baby Jesus) I came across.
Finally, they had a 1920 St. Guaden’s (sp). Obviously, it was in mint condition. This is the exact same coin that Harold soldered on a little loop and kept it his pocket for years.
Harold!! Why, man, why?!
“Chopped” has started. Best wrap this up.
Go Away Now!!
In spirit of “radical honesty” I saw a tic-tock on, figure I should tell you it was I who actually uttered the title sentence to Wendi as we were being shooed out at closing time.
Here are other possibles. What connects these classic paintings?
